About this trip

This trip was amazing.  This was my first time traveling to London and there was so much to see and learn on this trip.  The tour guides were also amazing with all the knowledge they shared with us on our tours and were very friendly and helpful.  I would definitely be interested in traveling with BreakAway Tours again.

BETC - 2025 Spring New York Tour

I had a wonderful time. . The trip was well organized. The tour guides are very knowledgeable . Everyone in the group are friendly. The shows were phenomenal. I look forward to another trip with this group.

Wonderful itinerary for a group interested in the theater. I enjoyed the mix of seeing performances but then also touring local attractions. Restaurant choices worked well for our large group. The local guides were fabulous, particularly Sean. He really added so much value to the trip with his historical knowledge but also his wit and good humor.

Absolutely fantastic trip! Alex and Barry did an amazing job with everything.  Our tour guide, Shaun was spectacular.  His indepth knowledge of history and current events dazzled all of us.  I don't know how he could actually remember all of it. 
The hotel was fine - we weren't in it much, although the pillows were terrible.  
I highly recommend this agency for any theater focused tour.  


Great trip just a lot packed into a short time.  Plays and resteraurants were diverse and excellent.  Hotel hit or miss on service.  Guides were great.

PCPA - 2025 New York Tour


Very good.   They did an excellent job of selecting the musicals we attended and got excellent tickets for them.  I did think the one play was terrible however.    Unfortunately getting to those great seats typically required climbing three stories of stairs, which I found difficult.
       Although we did not stay in the hotel, the Westin Times Square, because this was a dual purpose trip for us -- visiting family as well as participating in the tour, it became evident that the hotel was an excellent choice, very close to almost all of the performances.  It was also a more pleasant place than I expected for hanging out in the lobby to meet up with the group.  Plenty of comfortable seating.
       Times Square itself is a somewhat overwhelming environment -- extremely crowded and noisy at all times, clotted with barely moving traffic.
        The overall scheduling of the sight-seeing as well as the evening performances was rather intense, exhausting.   A visit to the Museum of Modern Art, which I have visited several times before, was disappointing.   The museum now fails to hand out the usual little brochure describing which rooms are exhibiting what.  We were therefore pretty much subjected to an annoying docent who had such a heavy accent that she was difficult to understand.   And much of what she was saying seemed to be her endless, eccentric personal theories about some giant Jackson Pollack paintings.   The tour itself should provide the brochure type information so that people can wander productively.   As we were about to leave, we spotted QR codes near the elevators in the lobby areas that promised such information.  Would have been helpful to be told about them at the beginning.  And we were unable to download the information -- the system seemed to be overloaded.
        The cruise of New York harbor was decent but the onboard tour guide was inadequate.  In this case also, it might have been helpful to have been provided with a map of the harbor in order to keep track of where one was.
        The few included group meals seemed to serve their purpose of facilitating social interaction and the development of friendliness among the members of the group.  The food was generally good although a sort of mass service situation.  Unfortunately the dining rooms used tended to be in basements accessed by more challenging stairs.
        Two presentations by a Broadway insider guide were truly outstanding features of the tour -- one at the kick-off breakfast and another described as a theater workshop   The speaker was very entertaining as well as informative.   Not to be missed, although the schedule information made them seem unimportant.
        As implied above, this is not a good tour for those with mobility issues.   The old theaters do not have elevators, nor do the chosen restaurants.









This trip was full of theater activities and a musical or play every day.  The variety was excellent, the seats were perfect and the hotel was always within walking distance.  The only suggestion I would have is that breakfast should be included.  Trying to find something for breakfast was always a rush -- and usually resulted in a pastry and juice in a crowded, noisy deli (and cost $20 or more!).

We had a wonderful London tour with a great mix of theater experiences and sightseeing.  The trip was very well organized and everything went smoothly.  

Theatre immersion.  Great venues and guides.  Well organized and thoroughly delightful.  

Very enjoyable.  Well organized and nice group of people. London is awesome; wish I had had more time to play tourist.  My only complaint would be that some of the plays were disappointing--only one I would rate very good (Oliver) and one good (Dear England).  Others were bad or mediocre.

Old Globe - 2025 London/Stratford Tour

It was a Very Memorable experience in NYC, with expert guides in many theaters who could tell their histories and add many fantastic stories of the people associated with each theater.  I really enjoyed two plays: Maybe Happy Ending and Buena Vista Social Club.  The other two were very well played by the by all the actors, but the storylines were not satisfying to me.  And not seeing Audra McDonald was a disappointment, but that is the breaks.
The hotel room was rather disappointing.  We had trouble with our keycards the whole time we were there; had to replace them several times.  There was no 2nd chair in the room and the one they brought in was like auditorium chair.  A small fridge would have been in order.
The city tour guides were also very attentive and knowledgeable.  It was reassuring that they knew the city so well.  Of course there was not enough time at The Met and some other major sites, but that was expected.
It would have been good to have a different kind of food one night than two Italian restaurants.  Chinese should have been good in NYC.


Lakewood - 2025 New York Tour

 We had a fantastic time. The tours were excellent. The entire trip was very well organized. The plays chosen offered a nice variety. The dinners were excellent.

We enjoyed the trip. The guides were excellent and really enhanced the trip, especially, Sean.

I was very impressed with how well everything was organized and how smoothly things were run. The experience was wonderful and I had a great time.

This is the second time we have joined the New York Theater trip.  Both experiences were excellent.  At the same time, we saw different shows and the tours/visits were different and very well done.  We particularly enjoyed the personal conversations with the actors and theater managers.  

We made our own travel arrangements to and from New York because we included another stop as part of the trip.  This presented no problem and met our priorities.

I learned a lot, theater and history.  This was a nice group.  I'm going to sign up for next year.

The tour was fantastic. There were so many things to see and do. Every day was packed with incredible experiences.
The tour guides were funny, knowledgeable and just great. The mix of activities was very fun and exhausting!

Pioneer Center - 2025 New York Tour

We all had a wonderful time.  It was a busy schedule but we all learned so much and the guides were professional.   Great Shows and fantastic tours.  

Barry from the tour company worked diligently to change our flights from Newark NJ Airport to JFK Airport . I would certainly recommend this Tour Company.

Excellent trip.  Really enjoy the places we visited and the shows we saw.

This was my second trip with PCPA and it was even better than the first one, if that was possible.  As a group, we faced the endless uncertainty of Newark Airport and ended up very lucky arriving with no delays.  Then the time came to leave and the situation seemed impossible.  However, with long tedious effort, Barry was able to reschedule a group of us at LaGuardia with 3 flights of connections.  I never anticipated all of those connections working out, but they did and we arrived at SLO ontime.  I can't thank Barry enough for  all his effort as I had a husband at home with Dementia and a caretaker.  I had to return as scheduled.  In addition to all of these "miracles", the musicals were marvelous, all Tony nominees, and the tours were fantastic.  I arrived home exhausted and so happy to have been on the tour.  Can't wait for the next PCPA tour!

An excellent trip with an outstanding tour director/guide. The trip was everything I hoped for with tours of London, excellent dining opportunities and pre theater educational lectures from Ken and Amy Kaissar. The show choices offered a good variety and balance of mystery, drama and musicals.

Bristol Riverside Theatre - 2025 London Tour

I am only giving it less than 5 stars because my room looked at - a wall, absolutely no view. I did tell Barry, but I did not want to complain and have my room changed, especially after I had already unpacked.

So very much enjoyed the excellent theater trip to NY.  Well chosen performances and amazing back stage tours.  Our main guide was extremely knowledgeable and well versed in NY/theater history, background, trivia and facts.  Loved being able to walk to all theater performances from the hotel.

What a great trip! In addition to seeing Broadway shows, we were able to see many sites around NYC.  The tour guides were knowledgeable and enthusiastic. It was great traveling with locals. 


This trip was well organized and the days were full of interesting activities. The Break away tour guides were very good and helpful. The shows we saw were fabulous and I truly enjoyed them.

It was the trip of a lifetime for me. Break Away Tours made it easy and enjoyable so we did not have to think much - the lovely Westin, the tickets to the shows, the tours, and a special shout out to them (Alex) for rerouting ur flight when the Newark airport was compromised. I highly recommend this travel company with their years of experience.

Great trip.  Shows, tours, all well planned and organized.  Loved it all. 

The individual tours and guides were absolutely wonderful. The Lincoln Center tour, the morning talk and meet up with actors for a Q & A along with the Apollo Theater and Hudson Theater tours made this trip truly exceptional. My wife & I have visited New York many times since 1980 and still learned many new things on this visit. The Westin at Times Square was a great place and perfect location. Lastly the tour agency chose a great mix of plays, many of which ended up receiving multiple Tony Award nominations. 
So why 4 stars not 5?
We were a little disappointed in the seats for the plays, all were in the mezzanine. It would have been nice to have a guide for at least part of the 9/11 museum. The Hi-line tour was not very informative mostly just a long walk. 

Overall I would rate this tour 4.7 stars!!

Best way to do New York!  Play choices were top tier, loved the theatre tours, Westin in Times Square was perfect location, all guides were great, and Barry getting our departure tickets changed from Newark to JFK to guarantee no departure delays was above and beyond. Recommend this tour to everyone!

We so enjoyed the Break-Away community of knowledgeable tour leaders and guides, activity options, and our fellow travelers.  The 4 Broadway shows were amazing. The insights to NYC neighborhoods, history, landmarks, theatres and art were invaluable.  We were able to do a lot in a short period because of Break-Away's knowledge and experience. (Barry even worked his magic to navigate a difficult airline/airport travel period for us, too.) We would definitely want to take another one of their tours. 

Overall a great trip.  Short connections in Chicago (both ways) were not good and very stressful.  Many of the travelers did not like having both first and last names on their name badges and did not wear them.  Restaurant choices could have been better.  Too much Italian

It was an amazing trip.  Well organized.  Everyone was always punctual.  Great food, very nice accommodations.  Great tours!!!   And a wide variety of shows.  Oliver was one of the best productions I've ever seen!

Extremely well organized & pleasant. Even when plan A could not happen, pivot was quickly made to plan B. The guides were quite good, especially Sean & Jo. The various tours were informative. The backstage mechanics of putting on a show were a revelation.  Alex was easygoing & kind making all things work out well. Two of the plays we saw left me in awe at how good they were.  The tour group was nice as well.

Excellent personalized experiences with professional tour guides, transportation, theatre talks, venues, 4 different Broadway productions, mid May for good weather and activities available. Appreciated Barry able to reset our return travel itinerary, so that we did not experience any delays, just a long travel day back to Central Coast California. 

A travel agency's nightmare occurred when flights into Newark were disrupted by air traffic control problems.  We somehow were on the one flight that did actually make it in, but the return was also problematic out of Newark.  So Barry at Break-Away spent hours on the phone with Alaska Airlines negotiating new departure info for over 30 people, now going home out of JFK.  Truly a miracle!  The four musicals we saw were superior with great seats.  The "backstage" tours led by actors were captivating; travel arrangements in the city were picture perfect; hotel was strategically located; I think we all felt well taken care of.  And we all met some new friends!

We had a wonderful time. Weather was fantastic, people we dealt with were warm & friendly, and our guide Sean was fantastic.

Everything was first class: great food, fantastic shows, a luxurious hotel and an informative and entertaining guide .

Break-Away was excellent in planning and executing our London trip.  Alex and Barry were always available via email, and they provided us with all the information and accessories we needed for travel.  As we were preparing to leave our London hotel, Alex made it a point to visit our group before his other commitments.  Our tour guides in London were top shelf, always made sure we didn't lose anyone, and we had lots of laughs.  A few travelers were in need of a taxi, and the guides were more than accommodating to procure alternate transportation for those who required it.

From start to finish, our London Theatre Tour was well planned and executed.  Our travel arrangements to, from and during were great; our hotel was well located and comfortable; the itinerary was thoughtfully designed; and our guides were warm, fun and incredibly knowledgeable of the site and its attractions.  I highly recommend Break-Away Tours for a fabulous theatre experience!
